Gavins Point Releases

Tuesday, July 8, 2014

U.S. Army Corps of Engineer officials have announced an increase in the releases from Gavins Point Dam to assist with downstream barge traffic throughout the remainder of the navigation season. Power Production Team Leader Mike Swenson says melt from the Rocky Mountain snowpack is now complete and runoff for this year is expected to be above normal but much less than during the flood event of 2011. Hydraulic Engineer Alex Flanagan says in order to support the downstream navigation season releases from Gavins Point Dam are expected to be increased from their current level of twenty-five thousand cubic-feet-per-second up to about thirty-five thousand c-f-s but may be curtailed if flooding along the river occurs.  Flanagan says the downstream navigation season closes on December 1st.
