The Yankton Bucks tennis squad returns to action today with a triangular at Huron involving Rapid City Central as well. The matches are scheduled to start at 10:00 this morning. The Bucks are 4 and 4 on the dual meet season.
Yankton senior Chris Kinsley won all three jumping events at Tuesday’s first home track and field meet of the season, which was a triangular against Brandon Valley and Mitchell. Jordan Payer (pigh-er) took the boys discus, Jaiden Boomsma won the girls 100 meter dash and the triple jump, Madason Tessier took the 100 meter hurdles and the Gazelles won the 800 and 3200 meter relays. Yankton will compete in the Corn Palace Relays Thursday in Mitchell.
Mount Marty College spring sports athletes are busy today. The Lancer track and field teams will compete at the Red Raider Relays in Orange City, and the Mount Marty men’s and women’s golf squads are taking part in separate invitational meets in Sioux City.
U-S-D sophomore golfer Tommy Vining from Sioux Falls finished eighth this week at the Tiger Invitational hosted by the University of Missouri. Vining shot an even par total of 216 over 54 holes to take eighth place among 96 golfers. The Coyotes finished 12th out of 18 teams in the standings, while South Dakota State took 14th place. The next action for both schools in men’s and women’s golf is the Summit League championships at the end of April.
Creighton scored in the bottom of the 11th inning to edge South Dakota State 6-5 in baseball yesterday in Omaha. The Jacks are now 14 and 14 on the season with a three-game Summit League series coming up this weekend at Western Illinois.
