On the first day of the Red Raider Track & Field Invite in Orange City, Mount Marty runners Mandy O’Malley and Berkley Reetveld finished one-two in the women’s 10-K, and Christina Herrboldt of Menno took second in the women’s pole vault. The meet hosted by Northwestern College concludes today.
In women’s golf, Mount Marty shot a 341 and tied for second at the Morningside Invitational yesterday. Senior Logan Wagner of Parkston fired a 79 and senior Kellie Winckler from Lake Andes shot an 81 for the Lancers.
In men’s golf, Mount Marty had a 306 and is tied for seventh out of 12 teams halfway through the Briar Cliff Invitational. Joe Brinkman had a two-under-par 70 for the Lancers and is tied for second place individually.
There will be a lot of sports action at the east end of Riverside Park today. The Mount Marty baseball squad will host Morningside in a doubleheader starting at 3 p-m, while the Lancers softball team is hosting Midland in a twin bill beginning at 4:00.
The Yankton Bucks tennis squad raised their season dual meet record to 6 and 4 with a pair of wins Wednesday at Huron. The Bucks defeated the host Tigers 6-3 and then shut out Rapid City Central 9-0. Unbeaten doubles teams for Yankton were Hunter Rockne and Sam Mooney at number one and Cole Sawatzke and Gerrit Dykstra at number three.
The Yankton High School girls golf team starts their season today at the Springview Golf Course in the Harrisburg Invitational. Brett Sime is again serving as head coach and the Gazelles are the defending Double-A state champions.
The Yankton High School track and field athletes will compete in the Corn Palace Relays starting at 4:00 today in Mitchell. We’ll have reports on the progress of the Bucks and Gazelles throughout the meet on AM 1450, KYNT.
