A doubleheader sweep Monday at Dakota Wesleyan has lifted the Mount Marty baseball team from ninth to sixth place in the G-PAC standings.  The Lancers took game one 5-0 as Dakota Stone fired the complete-game shutout with seven strikeouts.  Mount Marty held on for a 4-3 victory in the nightcap as Sam Erickson pitched the victory and Deric Denning allowed just one hit in three innings to earn the save.  Caden Skinner led the Lancer offense with four hits on the day, and Brandon Kemp had a homer and double.  Mount Marty is scheduled to play a conference makeup game tonight at Morningside.

The Mount Marty softball squad won both ends of a doubleheader over Dakota State last night by scores of 7-3 and 4-3.  Bianca Minor pitched nearly 11 innings in the sweep for the Lancers, while Jessica Wirth and Jen Mitera each had three hits and two RBI’s on the day.  Mount Marty is 12 and 17 overall and will host Briar Cliff in a G-PAC doubleheader tonight starting at 5:00 at Riverside Park.

U-S-D senior Rachel Cue has been named the Summit League Pitcher of the Week.  Cue tossed a pair of shutouts over the weekend at North Dakota State as the Coyotes raised their Summit League record to 6 and 6 on the season.

Bon Homme High School senior Chase Kortan has signed to play college baseball for South Dakota State.  Kortan has been a five-year varsity starter for the Cavaliers, and last year he batted .400 and was 3-0 on the mound with a 0.70 ERA.  He also was all-state in football for Bon Homme and was the Class A long jump state champion last May.

The Yankton High School track and field team will host a quadrangular today at Williams Field involving Brandon Valley, Washington and O’Gorman.  The meet begins at 4:00, and we’ll have updates throughout the action on AM 1450, KYNT.

The Yankton Gazelles will have their second golf meet of the season this afternoon as they go to Brandon for a triangular against the Lynx and Brookings.
