Yankton Thrive hosted a District 18 Post-Legislative Session Lunch yesterday.
SD Chamber of Commerce President David Owen, who spoke at the lunch, discussed a multitude of decisions that were made during the 2023 session, including the reduction of the state sales tax rate from 4.5% to 4.2%, and a 7% increase in state employee salaries.
Owen says that he felt that the session was rather well-mannered compared to sessions in the past.
Owen says that other major decisions in this year’s session included $60 million in funding for a new women’s prison and $30 million in construction inflation projects.
