The GPAC All-Conference baseball team has been announced, with Mount Marty pitcher Dakota Stone and catcher Cade Skinner earning first-team honors. Stone was 8 and 4 with a 2.44 E-R-A for the Lancers, while Skinner batted .333, led the team with 3 homers and 32 RBI’s and he threw out 43 percent of runners trying to steal a base. Mount Marty second baseman Skyler Cary led the squad with a .365 batting average and he was named second-team all-conference.
The GPAC All-Conference softball squad was also released, with Mount Marty senior outfielder Karlee Kozak of Tyndall being selected for first-team honors after batting .376 and driving in 34 runs to lead the team. Kozak is the first Lancer in school history to be named to the GPAC first team. Lancer senior pitcher Amber Krause was chosen second-team all-conference.
The USD softball team belted out 19 hits in defeating Omaha 11-4 Wednesday in the opening round of the Summit League tournament in Fargo. Emily Winckler and Jessica Rogers each had four hits for the Coyotes, who will now face top-seed IUPUI today at noon in the double elimination format.
The USD women’s basketball team knows which three opponents they will play during the Cancun Challenge next November. The Coyotes will take on Oklahoma State, Indiana State and the University of Tennessee in the gathering November 23rd through the 25th in Mexico. USD won the Summit League regular season title this year and finished with a 23 and 9 overall record.
The Nebraska Class D-1 District 1 track and field meet was held yesterday at the Hartington track, with Wausa taking the girls district title and Osmond winning the boys division.
Gayville-Volin won the Tri-Valley Conference boys golf title in a meet hosted by Fox Run Golf Course on Wednesday. Cameron Jueden and Chase Huether led the Raiders by tying for the medalist honors with rounds of 93 at Fox Run.
