The Yankton Bucks tennis team placed sixth in the ESD Conference Boys Tennis Championship at the Brandon courts, as defending state champion Mitchell took the title. Junior Cole Sawatzke won the fifth flight singles title for the Bucks, while Gage Becker and Isaac Klimisch each took third place in their flights. Yankton will compete in the state boys tennis meet beginning Thursday in Sioux Falls.
For the third consecutive girls golf invitational, the Yankton Gazelles have finished in third place. Friday at the Mitchell Invite, Aberdeen Central led the pack of 17 teams with a 331 total, O’Gorman was runner-up at 334 and the Gazelles were third with a 341 team total. Yankton freshman Morgan Strahl tied for second individually with an 80, while seniors Linze Cowman and Steph Schwartz tied for 12th place with rounds of 85. The Gazelles will golf at the Brookings Invitational next Thursday.
The Yankton Bucks high school club baseball team swept a doubleheader at home against Sioux Falls O’Gorman by scores of 7-2 and 4-3. Jordan Kathol pitched the complete game victory in the opener and drove in five runs on the day, while Michael Drotzmann had the game-winning RBI for the Bucks in the nightcap.

The Summit League Outdoor Track and Field Championship wraps up today in Fargo, as U-S-D sits in second place in the women’s standings and third place in the men’s division. Coyote senior Danielle Waldner won her third consecutive shot put title and her throw ranks eighth in the NCAA this season.
Mount Marty College earned three spots on the GPAC All-Conference golf squads announced Friday. Lancer seniors Logan Wagner of Parkston and Kellie Winckler from Lake Andes were both named first team All-Conference in women’s golf, while Mount Marty sophomore Joe Brinkman earned first team All-Conference in men’s golf.
