Three-time defending state champion Sioux Falls Lincoln has the lead and Yankton is 13th after the first day of the South Dakota boys tennis state tournament.  The Bucks have Isaac Klimisch, Cole Sawatzke and Gage Becker all playing today for a chance at fifth place in their flights.  The state tournament runs through Saturday in Sioux Falls.

The Yankton Gazelles shot a 354 total and placed fourth among 12 teams at the Brookings Golf Invitational on Thursday.  Morgan Strahl and Darian Tramp each shot 85 at the Brookings course and tied for eighth place.

Viborg-Hurley won the boys and girls divisions at the Region 5-B track and field meet Thursday at Centerville.  Logan Hansen won the 400 meter and 800 meter runs to lead the Viborg-Hurley boys.

In the Region 5-A meet at Tyndall, bon Homme senior Chase Kortan was a triple winner…taking first in the 100 and 200 meter dashes and winning the long jump.

The South Dakota Track and Field Championships will be held next Friday and Saturday in the Sioux Falls area.  The Nebraska state high school track meet will be held today and tomorrow in Omaha.

There is a South Central League amateur baseball game scheduled tonight, as Freeman plays at Scotland.

The American Association baseball season started on Thursday, and Sioux City edged Sioux Falls 2-1.  James Needy was the winning pitcher for the Explorers, striking out nine Canaries in six innings
