KYNT Local Sports 9-9-17

The Mitchell Kernels rallied to defeat Yankton 33-21 last night at the Freeman field.  Yankton was led by Caid Koletzky who rushed for 162 yards and a score, while Garrett Tennant passed for two touchdowns to Rex Ryken.  The Kernels rushed for 296 yards as they stayed unbeaten in three games, while the Bucks are winless in three games with a contest at Sioux Falls Roosevelt next Friday.

Yankton shot a 338 total and placed 11th out of 14 schools in their Boys Golf Invitational at Hillcrest Country Club on Friday.  Freshman Jimmie Cunningham led the Bucks with an 83.  Yankton will compete in the Brookings Invite on Monday.

The Yankton cross-country runners will go for honors in the Brandon Valley Invitational which starts at 9:30 a-m today, and we’ll have updates from Rich Wright later this morning on KYNT covering the Bucks and Gazelles.  The Yankton soccer teams have a doubleheader this afternoon at Aberdeen Central, while the Gazelles volleyball team will host third-ranked Aberdeen Central today at 2:30.

The Mount Marty volleyball squad went to Omaha and won two matches on Friday, defeating Mayville State 3-1 and sweeping William Penn 3-0.  The Lancers are now 4 and 3 on the season with two more matches today in Omaha.

The Mount Marty soccer teams have a home doubleheader today against Central Christian College, and the Mount Marty cross-country runners compete in the Dordt Defender Classic today.

In volleyball at Kansas City on Friday, U-S-D edged Missouri-Kansas City 3-2 and then Northern Iowa defeated the Coyotes 3-1.  In women’s soccer yesterday, Colorado College rolled past U-S-D 4-1.

The U-S-D football team has a game tonight at Bowling Green, Ohio…while South Dakota State has a game tonight at Montana State.
