Lake Yankton Ban On Motors Stays

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Gavins Point Project has announced that the prohibition against using gas powered watercraft on Lake Yankton will remain in effect.

Natural Resource Manager Gary Ledbetter says safety and noise concerns regarding lifting the ban from the public played a large part in the decision.

Ledbetter says people who wish to utilize Lake Yankton for recreation will continue to be able to do so.

The proposal to allow gas-powered boats on Lake Yankton was the topic of a public input meeting at the Lewis and Clark Visitors Center last month.
