The Mount Marty women’s basketball team edged Nebraska Wesleyan 85-83 in overtime Saturday at the Cimpl Arena.  The Lancers shot 46 percent from 3-point range and were led by junior Karissa Chamley with 17 points as they stayed unbeaten in five non-conference games.

Friends University defeated Mount Marty 76-61 in the men’s contest on Saturday.  Senior Marcus Mathieu led the Lancers with 18 points and 9 rebounds as their record fell to 1 and 4 overall.  Mount Marty will face Morningside in a twin bill Wednesday night at the Cimpl Arena to begin the G-PAC schedule.

The University of South Dakota men’s basketball team won their season opener by an 87-59 score over Mayville State.  The Coyotes shot 49 percent from the field and will have a non-conference game at Bowling Green Ohio at 6:00 this evening.

North Dakota State crushed U-S-D 49-14 on Saturday as the Bison totaled 647 yards of offense in clinching at least a share of their seventh consecutive Missouri Valley Football Conference title.  Coyote quarterback Chris Streveler had 325 yards of total offense and set a school record for most total yards in one season.

Fifth-ranked South Dakota State nipped Illinois State 27-24 in overtime Saturday as quarterback Taryn Christion had 282 yards of total offense in the Jacks victory.

Superior High School upset top-seed Hartington Cedar Catholic 3-2 in the Nebraska Class C-2 volleyball championship on Saturday in Lincoln.  The Torjans suffered their first loss of the season in the title game after 34 consecutive wins.

Sioux Falls Washington stopped a two-point try in the final minute and edged Sioux Falls Roosevelt 20-19 in the Class 11-Triple-A football championship, as the Warriors won their third state title in a row.  Madison rolled past Dakota Valley 42-20 in the Class 11-B championship on Saturday as the Bulldogs also won their third consecutive title.
