2018 Legislative Education Preview

With the 2018 South Dakota Legislative session getting underway in January teachers and school officials from across the state are paying careful attention to what actions lawmakers will take in regards to education.

After serving on a task force dealing with property tax valuations of agricultural land this summer District 18 Senator Craig Kennedy says no change in that area is being recommended for the coming year.

Kennedy says there is no doubt that the decline in sales tax revenues across South Dakota will have an impact on how lawmakers address education funding in 2018.

The 2018 South Dakota Legislative session begins at noon on January 9th with Governor Dennis Daugaards’ State of the State message.
