The South Dakota Media pre-season high school boys basketball poll has been released with Aberdeen Central, the Tea Area, and Bridgewater-Emery the top rated teams in each class. The Yankton Bucks are tied for seventh in Double-A, with Vermillion rated sixth in Class A and Irene-Wakonda ranked fourth in Class B boys basketball.
The Yankton Bucks wrestling squad will return to the mats tonight at Lennox. The Bucks will join Lennox, Washington and Lincoln in duals starting at 5 p-m.
The Yankton gymnastics team has a home meet this evening, as the Gazelles will host Mitchell and Lincoln in a triangular starting at 6:00.
Three Yankton youth soccer teams participated in an indoor soccer tournament over the weekend in Sioux Falls with excellent results. Yankton won the Under-15 and Under-14 divisions with another squad placing second in their division. Dane Hansen coached the winning Yankton teams in the tournament which included squads from South Dakota, North Dakota and Minnesota.
The USD women’s basketball squad crushed Incarnate Word by an 81-51 margin last night in San Antonio. Junior Allison Arens of Crofton led the Coyotes with 21 points and 6 assists as they raised their season record to 5 wins and 4 losses.
In the Summit League Indoor Track & Field pre-season poll, USD was chosen to finish second in the women’s division while the Coyote men were picked for third place. North Dakota State was picked to win both divisions in the Summit League.
