The Yankton Bucks used strong defense to defeat Mitchell 49-40 last night in a conference game as part of the Mike Miller Basketball Classic at the Corn Palace. Freshman Matthew Mors had a huge game for the Bucks, leading the team with 26 points and 8 rebounds. Yankton is now 3 and 1 on the season and will face Minneapolis De La Salle tonight at 8:00 in the Sanford Pentagon. The De La Salle squad has won six consecutive Minnesota state basketball championships and they beat White Station from Memphis 70-56 yesterday in Mitchell. The Mount Marty women’s basketball squad topped Waldorf College 72-60 on Friday at the Cimpl Arena. Junior Mikayla Prouty scored 15 points in 15 minutes for the Lancers, while freshman Karlee McKinney chipped in 13 points, as Mount Marty raised its season record to 9 and 7 overall.
Mount Marty lost another men’s basketball game in the final seconds last night, as the Waldorf Warriors edged the Lancers 63-60 at the Cimpl Arena. Senior Conlan Callahan led Mount Marty with 14 points as they lost their sixth game by five points or less.
