KYNT Local Sports 1-13-18

In high school wrestling on Friday, Aberdeen Central defeated Yankton 54-26 and Brandon Valley topped the Bucks 61-13.  Cole Diedrichsen and Carlos Ruffo each picked up a pair of victories for the Bucks, who will compete at the Harrisburg Invitational today.

Mount Marty College has announced four inductees into the Mount Marty Athletic Hall of Fame.  Jason Nelson is the career leader for the Lancer baseball program in batting average and home runs and was first-team All-Conference three consecutive years.  Jeremy Grady was All-Conference in baseball twice and was part of 127 career victories at Mount Marty.  Laura Wortmann Morrison was a four-time All-American in the shot put and discus for Mount Marty, and holds every school record in those events.  Michelle Amundson Schumacher was named first-team All-Conference all four years in women’s basketball, and she held six Lancer records when she graduated.  These athletes will be introduced on January 27th at the Cimpl Arena, and the induction ceremony will take place June 22nd as part of the Lancer Club Summer Party and School Reunion.

The Mount Marty College basketball teams get back into G-PAC action today.  The Lancers will host Concordia University in a doubleheader beginning earlier than normal with a 1:30 start for the women’s game.  The Concordia women’s team is unbeaten and top-ranked in the country, while the Bulldog men’s team is receiving votes nationally.  Our broadcast of Mount Marty basketball starts at 1:05 this afternoon on AM 1450, KYNT.

The U-S-D women’s basketball team looks to remain unbeaten in the Summit League with a 1:00 game today against Fort Wayne in the Sanford Coyote Sports Center. The Coyotes are 12 and 5 overall, while Fort Wayne has a 4 and 13 record.
