The Yankton High School basketball teams continue their seasons with a doubleheader at Sioux Falls Washington tonight. The Bucks are 9 and 5 on the season and seeded sixth in the Class Double-A rankings with the Warriors seeded fifth. The Gazelles are 4 and 10 overall and seeded 15th this week in Double-A. In the South Dakota Media basketball poll this week, Yankton is rated seventh in Class Double-A boys basketball with Bon Homme ranked fifth in Class A boys. In the girls basketball poll, Vermillion is sixth in Class A this week. In Class B girls, Avon has moved up to fourth in the state and Irene-Wakonda is ranked sixth.
The Mount Marty Junior Varsity women’s basketball team defeated Briar Cliff last night 79-58 at the Cimpl Arena, as junior Kelli Steffen led the Lancers with 21 points. The Mount Marty varsity squads have a G-PAC doubleheader at Northwestern Wednesday night.
South Dakota State junior Mike Daum has been named the Summit League Athlete of the Week. Daum averaged 33 points and 16 rebounds per game in a pair of victories by the Jacks last week.
The University of South Dakota softball team begins its season on Thursday with six games scheduled during a four-day tournament in Tempe, Arizona. Robert Wagner starts his second season coaching the Coyotes, who had a 22 and 32 season record last year.
