Both Mount Marty College basketball teams were close at halftime, and both lost by big margins at nationally ranked teams from Northwestern College last night in Orange city. The ninth-ranked Red Raiders pulled away from a nine-point game at the half to defeat the Lancer women’s squad 90-61 on Wednesday, as sophomore Ali Kuca led Mount Marty with 14 points. The tenth-rated Northwestern men’s squad led by five at halftime and went on to defeat the Lancers 92-58 last night, as senior Marcus Mathieu paced Mount Marty with 18 points. The Mount Marty teams have their final G-PAC home doubleheader Saturday afternoon against Briar Cliff starting at 2:00 at the Cimpl Arena.
The USD women’s basketball team won their 20th game of the season last night with a 79-60 victory at Fort Wayne. Sophomore Ciara Duffy from Rapid City led the Coyotes with 20 points as they stayed unbeaten in the Summit League with their 14th consecutive win overall. USD will host Doane Saturday at 1:00.
The University of South Dakota football team announced the addition of 11 athletes yesterday on the second National Signing Day. The players are all from out-of-state, including five from the state of Florida. South Dakota State also announced 11 football players signed yesterday, including twin brothers Jadon and Jaxon Janke from Madison, South Dakota.
USD sophomore pole vaulter Chris Nilsen has been named the Summit League Male Athlete of the Month for January, while SDSU junior basketball standout Macy Miller was selected as the Summit League Female Athlete of the Month.
Mount Marty College announced the signing of Trent Jones for their men’s soccer program. Jones is a 5’7” defender who helped his Council Bluffs High School to nine shutouts during his senior season and he has transferred to Mount Marty after starting his freshman year at Grandview University.
