The USD men’s basketball team rolled to an 86-69 victory over Fort Wayne last night at the Sanford Coyote Sports Center. Matt Mooney led the Coyotes with 17 points and 9 assists as they moved their record to 21 and 6 overall and remain just a half-game behind South Dakota State in the Summit League standings.
SDSU picked up an 91-87 victory at Denver in men’s basketball last night as the Jacks also won their 21st game. David Jenkins, Jr. led State with a career-high 31 points. The South Dakota State women routed Denver on Thursday 95-59.
The USD softball team lost two games to open their season in Arizona. Boise State defeated the Coyotes 11-3 and San Jose State outscored U-S-D 16-12.
The Mount Marty College basketball teams will have their final home G-PAC doubleheader tomorrow afternoon as Briar Cliff visits the Cimpl Arena. This will be Senior Night for the Mount Marty men to honor seniors Drew Cheskie, Marcus Mathieu and Conlan Callahan, with the homecoming twin bill starting at 2 p-m.
High School gymnastics teams from around South Dakota are in Watertown today in preparation for the state meet. The team competition is today with the individual meet scheduled for Saturday. The Yankton Gazelles are the sixth-seed in the Class Double-A meet.
The Yankton Gazelles and Bucks host Mitchell tonight in a doubleheader at the Summit Activities Center. The Gazelles are 4 and 11 overall, while the Kernels have a 6 and 9 girls record.
