The Yankton Gazelles and Bucks swept Mitchell last night in high school basketball at the Summit Activities Center. The Gazelles jumped out to a 13 point lead early in the fourth quarter and held on for a 42-40 win over the Kernels as senior Emily Oswald topped the scoring with 11 points. The Bucks led by 13 points after the first quarter and cruised past Mitchell 54-34 on Friday as freshman Matthew Mors led the attack with 21 points. Today, the Yankton Gazelles host top-rated Aberdeen Central at 3:00 at the Summit Activities Center and the Yankton Bucks travel to play at Aberdeen Central at 5:00. Mitchell won the Class AA team championship at the State Gymnastics meet in Watertown on Friday. The Yankton Gazelles had a team score of 132.3 to place seventh at the state meet. In Class A, Deuel was the team champion with Vermillion finishing sixth and Wagner-Bon Homme in eighth place. The individual titles will be decided in both classes today at Watertown.
The Yankton Bucks compete in the all-day Huron Invitational wrestling meet today, as they continue their preparation for the Region meet next Friday at the Sioux Falls Pentagon.
The Mount Marty College basketball teams will have their final home G-PAC doubleheader this afternoon as Briar Cliff visits the Cimpl Arena. The Mount Marty senior men basketball players will be honored including Drew Cheskie, Marcus Mathieu and Conlan Callahan, with the homecoming twin bill starting at 2:00.
