The South Dakota State women’s basketball team won its eighth Summit League post-season title in the past ten years with a 65-50 victory over South Dakota on Tuesday. The Jacks scored the first 11 points of the contest and were led by Tournament Most Valuable Player Macy Miller who scored 16 points with 11 rebounds. Ciara Duffy paced the Coyotes with 12 points and 6 boards. South Dakota State now qualifies for the NCAA Women’s Tournament after snapping U-S-D’s 20-game winning streak. Both teams have season records of 26 wins against 6 losses.
The South Dakota State men’s basketball squad outscored South Dakota 97-87 last night as the Jacks won their third consecutive Summit League post-season title. David Jenkins, Junior led S-D-S-U with 29 points while Tournament M-V-P Mike Daum added 25 points and 11 rebounds. Junior Matt Mooney paced the Coyotes with a game-high 30 points.
The N-A-I-A Division Two women’s and men’s basketball national tournaments begins this morning with the men playing at the Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls and the women’s tourney again at the Tyson Events Center in Sioux City. In the men’s tournament at 10:15 a-m, Briar Cliff meets Oregon Tech and at 8:00 this evening, Northwestern takes on Bellevue, Nebraska. In women’s action at noon today, Concordia faces Stillman, Alabama and at 7:30 tonight, Dakota Wesleyan plays Indiana East.
The Mount Marty College baseball squad is back in action today in Tucson, Arizona. The Lancers are 7 and 5 overall as they prepare to host Waldorf College from Iowa in a doubleheader this afternoon.
Mount Marty lost two softball games last night in Tucson. Aquinas College blanked the Lancers 9-0 and Saint Xavier University defeated Mount Marty 6-3. The Lancers have two softball games Thursday against nationally ranked teams.
The Yankton Quarterback Club meeting for today has been cancelled. The season has now ended for the Quarterback Club in its 71st year of gatherings, and meetings will resume again before the football season starts in August.
