The Mount Marty baseball squad swept a doubleheader over Waldorf College, Iowa in Tucson, Arizona by scores of 9-6 and 13-2 yesterday.  Colin Muth allowed just one hit with nine strikeouts in five innings to pitch the second game victory, while Evan Steiner recorded five strikeouts in five innings to win the opener.  Ethan Lynn had six hits with five RBI’s to lead the Lancers attack for the day.  Mount Marty is 9 and 5 overall with two games coming up tomorrow.

The Mount Marty softball team is 2 and 6 overall and will play games today against nationally ranked teams from Indiana Wesleyan and Olivet Nazarene.

The N-A-I-A Division Two national basketball tournaments began Wednesday with the men playing at the Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls and the women’s tourney at the Tyson Events Center in Sioux City.  In men’s basketball yesterday, Briar Cliff defeated Oregon Tech 80-70 and last night Northwestern rallied to beat Bellevue, Nebraska by a 75-62 score.  In women’s basketball, Concordia rolled past Stillman, Alabama 75-52 and Dakota Wesleyan whipped Indiana East 78-62.  Today the Dakota Wesleyan men face Governors State of Illinois and Morningside takes on Trinity International from Illinois, and the Morningside women’s squad meets Rio Grande, Ohio.

The Vermillion girls basketball team competes in the South Dakota Class A girls basketball state tournament beginning today at the Watertown Civic Arena.  The Tanagers are seeded seventh with an 18 and 5 season record as they face the four-time defending state champion St. Thomas More team at 6:00 this evening.

The Class B South Dakota girls basketball state tourney begins today at the Barnett Center in Aberdeen.  Eighth-seed Tripp-Delmont-Armour opens up the bracket at noon today against unbeaten Faith, and then at 6 p-m it’s seventh-seed Avon taking on Hanson.

The Nebraska boys basketball state tournaments start today in Lincoln.  Top-seed Ponca looks to defend their Class C-2 championship and the Indians face Perkins County tonight at 7:00.  In Class D-2 at 7 p-m, the Wynot Blue Devils take on second-seed Riverside in the opening round.
