Three members of a Tyndall family died in a two-vehicle accident around 7 a-m Saturday on Highway 37 four miles south of Parkston. The South Dakota Highway Patrol says a car was northbound on Highway 37 when the driver lost control on the ice-covered road and slid into a southbound semi-truck.
The Highway Patrol says the 16-year-old male driver and the two passengers, a 49-year-old male and a 48-year-old female were pronounced dead at the scene. All three were wearing seatbelts.
The 77-year-old male driver of the semi-truck was also wearing a seatbelt and was not injured in the crash, which is being investigated by the South Dakota Highway Patrol.
The names had not been released by the Highway Patrol as of Sunday night. At 10:25 Sunday morning, the Opsahl-Kostel Memorial Chapel of Tyndall released three names in their obituary report, including 49-year-old Daniel Johnson, 48-year-old Tina Johnson and 16-year-old Zachary Johnson, all of Tyndall.
