While endorsing a campaign to help educate citizens about the need to take precautions against spreading the COVID 19 virus, last night the Yankton City Commission stopped short of mandating the wearing of masks in public.
City Manager Amy Leon says there was a wide difference of opinion among the commissioners regarding what approach to the COVID 19 pandemic they should take.
An education campaign is being organized by local entities such as Yankton Area Progressive Growth and the Yankton Chamber of Commerce.
Leon says the city commissioners voiced support for such a campaign.
Leon says the COVID 19 education campaign will utilize a community-wide approach.
Leon says preliminary numbers are that Yankton municipal government would contribute up to fifteen thousand dollars of a projected forty thousand dollar total for the education campaign.
