The South Dakota Department of Public Safety reports that 141 people died in traffic crashes in 2020, and that’s 38 percent higher than a year earlier. In 2019, there were 102 people killed in motor vehicle crashes in South Dakota, which was the lowest in state history since records have been kept since 1947.
