- Both the Class D1 Hartington-Cedar Catholic and Class C2 Crofton Girls continue their push towards a state title in their class today. The #8 Trojans now face off vs 4th seeded Shelton at 9am. The #4 Crofton Warriors square up with #1 seed St. Cecilia at 130pm. - South Dakota High School Girls Basketball begin their respective state tournaments today. Class B plays at Watertown’s Civic Arena, Class A in Brookings’ Frost Arena, and Class AA at the Monument in Rapid City.
- Chris Nilsen’s pole vault title highlighted four Coyote alumni that competed at the U.S. Indoor Track and Field Championships held Feb. 26-27 at The Podium. Nilsen captured the men’s pole vault title with a height of 19-4 ¾ winning his second consecutive U.S. Championship after winning the 2021 U.S. Olympic Trials. This past Saturday at the Perche Elite Tour in Rouen, France, he broke his own American indoor record with a clearance of 19-10 ¼. Nilsen heads to the World Indoor Championships held March 18-20 in Belgrade, Serbia. Nilsen was the Olympic silver medalist in Tokyo.
- Clay Carlson was awarded the No. 7 seed at 141 pounds to lead South Dakota State’s contingent into next week’s NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships. A junior from Willmar, Minnesota, and a returning All-American, Carlson enters the championships with a 30-4 overall record after a third-place finish at last week’s Big 12 Wrestling Championship. He will square off against Northwestern’s Frankie Tal Shahar, 11-8 overall, in opening-round action. Competition at the 2022 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships runs March 17-19 at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit. The entire tournament will be televised on the ESPN family of networks.
