LOCAL SPORTS REPORT 4-29-22

  • Yankton Track & Field hosted the First Dakota Relays yesterday late yesterday afternoon and secured eleven first place finishes.

For the Gazelles.

  • Shae Rumsey finished first in the 800-Meter Run with a (2:24.67)
  • The 4×800 Meter Relay Team of Claire Tereshinski (Tear-Uh-Shin-Ski), Thea Chance, Shae Rumsey and Sydnee Serck finished on top with a (9:53.17).
  • Tierney Faulk finished first in the Girls Triple Jump (35-03.50)

For the Bucks

  • Austin Gobel took top honors in the Boys 100 Meter Dash (11.29)
  • Dylan Payer took first in the Boys 1600 Meter Run (4:35.94), Zach Fedde finished right behind him in second (4:36.40)
  • Cody Oswald finished on top in both the Boys 110 Meter Hurdles (15.67) and the Boys 300 Meter Hurdles (41.76)
  • The Boys 4×200 Meter Relay Team of Jaden Supergeci (Super-Guess-E), Gavin Swanson, Brayden Boese (Baze), and Austin Gobel took first (1:29.86).
  • The Boys 4×800 Meter Relay Team of Carson Conway, Zach Fedde, Nate Schoenfelder, and Dylan Payer also took first (8:20.9)
  • Carson Haak dominated the Boys Discus and Shot Put, finishing first (154-11) and (52-00.5).

The event reached its conclusion early due to lightning and weather concerns. The Yankton Track and Field Team now competes in Mitchell on Tuesday in a triangular vs the Kernels and O’Gorman beginning at 4pm.

  • The Yankton Quarterback Club Junior High Invitational take place today at Williams Field at Yankton High School, beginning at 12pm.
  • Yankton Gazelles Golf squeaked out a two stroke (339-341) victory over Harrisburg yesterday afternoon at Fox Run Golf Course. Harrisburg’s Reese Jansa took top honors individually, shooting a 73, while Yankton’s Jillian Eidsness finished second, carding a 78. Tatum Honentaner finished with an 84, and tied for third with Harrisburg’s Mattie Weidenbach. Rounding out the Yankton Varsity scorers were Ellia Homstad with an 87 and Lizzy Schwartz with a 90. The Gazelles return to competition Monday at Sioux Falls Prairie Green Golf Course for a quadrangular vs Sioux Falls Jefferson, Sioux Falls Lincoln, and Mitchell. Tee time scheduled for 10am.
  • Yankton Bucks Tennis looks to continue their dominant season with another pair of victories tomorrow at Madison High School in a triangular vs Watertown and Madison. First serve is set for 11am.
  • The Mount Marty softball team traveled to Jamestown University yesterday afternoon in the midst of the final week of the regular season. MMU was swept on the road by the Jimmies 4-3, and 7-6. Now at 26-12 overall, and 14-6 in conference play, the Lancers now sit in third place in the GPAC standings. Tomorrow, MMU will finish the season with a home doubleheader against Briar Cliff at Sertoma Park in Yankton. The action begins at 1 p.m. on KYNT, with the pregame set to begin at 12:30.
  • The Mount Marty baseball team holds a 32-13 overall, and 16-8 conference record. Today, the Lancers will travel to conference leader Doane for two games, and then finish the regular season with two games at Midland on Saturday. The action today will begin at 10 a.m. as the Lancers are trying to get their games in before this afternoon’s storm. Tomorrows games are currently scheduled for 1 p.m.
  • The Mount Marty track and field programs return to action today for the Drake Relays. This is a three-day event that will span Thursday through Saturday. Also on Saturday, MMU will host the Mount Marty Open here in Yankton. This is the last meet before the GPAC conference championship meet next weekend.
