Major construction work is occurring this week on the Fairfield Inn & Suites project in Yankton. The project is located just behind the Fryn Pan.
Tim Rutjes from Slowey Management, who is the developer on the project, says that crews will complete drywall work on the building this week and will work on the exterior of the building throughout the next two months.
The hotel is scheduled to open to visitors in late September, but that all depends on material availability at this time. Rutjes says supply chain issues might delay the opening date.
Dirt work on the hotel project, located in the parking lot of the Yankton Mall, started in late 2017 but came to a halt when the snow arrived. Expectations were that work would resume the following spring and the property would be finished near the end of 2018. However, work did not resume on the property due to several financing issues. Slowey Management took over leadership on the project last year.
Rutjes adds that they will start hiring staff for the hotel sometime in July. Fairfield Inn will be managed by the current Yankton Holiday Inn Express Manager Ann Riley.
The 72-room Fairfield Inn & Suites will have an indoor pool, guest laundry, a fitness room, a meeting space, and a breakfast area.
