LOCAL SPORTS 9-14-22

Yankton hosted Huron at Crane-Youngworth Field last night for a varsity soccer double-header. The Gazelles unleashed an offensive barrage on their way to a 6-0 victory and are now 2-7-1 on the season. Keira Christ, Iyana Becker, Lucy Johnson, and Brie Luken each scored a goal for Yankton, while Eden Wolfgram netted two goals in the game. The Bucks nearly knocked off Huron, the last remaining undefeated team in Class AA, but fell short 3-2. Christian Pacheco netted both goals for Yankton. The Bucks are now 4-4-2 on the season. Yankton now prepares to travel to Joe Quintal Field in Mitchell tomorrow for another double-header beginning with the Gazelles at 4pm.

Gazelles Volleyball fell to unbeaten Huron last night (25-22, 25-18, 16-25, 25-21). Macy Drotzmann led Yankton with 12 kills, 28 digs, two ace serves and two blocks. Camille McDermott finished with 29 assists. Yankton is now 1-9 on the season and end an eight-match streak of road contests as they return home to the Summit Activities Center tomorrow vs Mitchell. First serve schedule for 7pm.

Gazelles Tennis split a pair of matches at a triangular in Mitchell yesterday afternoon. Yankton claimed a 5-4 victory over Mitchell, with Nora Krajewski, Sabrina Krajewski, Frannie Kouri and Evelyne Lima-Zapon each winning their singles matches, and Sabrina and Nora Krajewski winning in doubles action. Yankton also fell to SF Lincoln by a 5-4 score, with Nora Krajewski and Paige Mitzel won their singles matches, while Nora and Sabrina Krajewski, as well as Frannie Kouri and Paige Mitzel won their doubles contests. Gazelle tennis now hosts a varsity quadrangular versus Rapid City Christian, Vermillion, and Sioux Falls Christian tomorrow from the SAC Tennis Courts, beginning at 10am.

The Bucks travel to Lake View Golf Course in Mitchell Friday for a varsity golf invitational. Start time is set for 1030am.

Yankton Cross Country competes in a varsity invitational in Norfolk Friday morning beginning at 10am.

The Yankton Athletics Hall of Fame induction ceremony will be held Thursday the 22nd of this month at 5pm, and the following will be inducted.
Bob Muth-Played a key role in Yankton athletics success for 25 years, helping coach both the football and track and field programs.
Mike Welter-One of the top wrestlers in Bucks history, Mike Welter earned two state titles and posted a 59-10-1 record on the mat for Yankton.
Ashley Dannenbring-A three-sport standout at YHS, Dannenbring holds the rare distinction of winning two state titles during one athletic season. In the fall of 2005, she was a key contributor to both the Gazelles’ state cross country title and the Gazelles’ state volleyball title.
