  • The Nebraska Cornhuskers Football Program officially signed Matt Rhule to an eight-year, $74 million contract that makes him the third-highest paid coach in the Big Ten behind Ohio State’s Ryan Day and Michigan State’s Mel Tucker and among the top 10 nationally. Athletic director Trev Alberts said the contract is 90% guaranteed and that some of the compensation is deferred. Rhule will have a pool of $7 million to spend on assistant coaches.

BASKETBALL

  • The (4-3) USD Women’s Basketball travels to Northern Colorado this Friday for a 7pm tipoff.

VOLLEYBALL

  • The South Dakota Coyote Volleyball team (29-3) won its third straight Summit League Championship this past weekend as they defeated Omaha in three straight sets on Saturday. With the win, the Coyotes earned an automatic berth to the NCAA tournament for the fourth time in five years. The Yotes take on #22 Houston in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament, first serve is scheduled for 330pm on Friday.

OTHER

  • The Gazelles Gymnastics team fell in their season opener to Mitchell 143.4-127.2 last night at the River City Gymnastics Center. Mitchell finished with the top three individual “All Around” Scores, with Yankton’s Allie Byrkeland finishing fourth and scoring top marks for Yankton with a 31.55 score. Yankton now prepares for a varsity invitational at Sioux Falls Jefferson on Saturday, beginning at 11am.
  • Yankton Wrestling makes its season debut Thursday in a varsity triangular versus host team Beresford, and ESD foe, Watertown. Competition begins at 5pm.
