The Mount Marty Lancers baseball team were swept by Jamestown in a double header yesterday afternoon.
The Lancers fell in game one 8 to 5 and game two 5 to 4, as they are now 30 and 13 on the year. The Lancer bats had three home runs on the day, one from Kiko Nunez, and two from Billy Hancock, adding to his all-time record.
Next up for the Lancers is a road double header against Dordt this afternoon.
The Mount Marty Lancers softball team split a double header against Concordia on Saturday.
MMU lost 7 to 4 in game one, but bounced back with a 4 to 2 victory in game two. Autumn Porter led the way offensively, as her home run in game two helped the Lancers secure the victory, and was her fifth long ball of the week. Pitcher Mackenzie Gray threw a complete outing in game two, as she earned the win on the mound for the Lancers.
The remainder of the Lancers regular season games are scheduled to take place at home, starting with a pair of games against Northwestern College at 5:00 PM tomorrow evening.
The Mount Marty Lancers track and field team broke four school records during the Jim Dutcher Memorial over the weekend.
Three records were set by the women’s team, as Calli Davis set the new high mark in the 400 meter dash, winning the event in 56.05 seconds. Davis was also part of the school record breaking 4 by 400 meter relay team alongside Elianna Clark, Tianna Bumbaca-Kuehl, and Abrielle Nelson, with a time of 3 minutes and 59.76 seconds, taking home second in the event. Elianna Clark, Isabelle Hardmeyer, Zelie Sorensen, and Alexis Even also set a new record in the 4 by 100 meter relay, winning the event in 47.86 seconds.
The men’s team also broke a relay record in the 4 by 100, as Deontae Howard, Donovan Breckenridge, Jonathan Fuselier and Mason Schleis finished in 41.31 seconds.
Mount Marty track and field also competed in the Northwestern Invite over the weekend, as Luke Rettedal earned a podium finish during the event, while two other Lancers finished top-10.
Sophomore Luke Rettedal led the field events for MMU, as he finished second in the men’s shot put with a throw of 14.86 meters. Also taking home high finishes were Seth Wiebelhaus, who took 4th in the men’s pole vault, and Grace Rippen, who finished 6th in the women’s pole vault.
The next event for MMU track and field is the Mount Marty Twilight meet in Yankton, on Wednesday at 11:00 AM.
The Mount Marty women’s golf team took the top spot in the Peru State Invite over the weekend, as four total Lancers finished in the top ten, including individual champion Kelsey Heath.
Kelsey Heath shot an 81 to claim the top spot on the leaderboard. She was joined in the top-10 by MMU’s Courtney Heath in 3rd, Tanna Lehfeldt in 4th, and Caitlyn Stimpson in 9th.
The next event for Mount Marty women’s golf is the GPAC championships in Spencer, Iowa, beginning on May 1st.
The two-day GPAC conference tournament for men’s golf begins this morning at The Bluffs in Vermillion. Tee time is currently set for 9:00 AM.
Mount Marty men’s and women’s tennis have their final meets of the season tomorrow afternoon, as they travel to Sioux City to face Morningside College. First serve set for 3:00 PM.
Yankton Gazelles softball kick off their stretch of four games in six days tonight, as they host O’Gorman at Sertoma Park in Yankton. First pitch set for 6:00 PM.
The Gazelles will also be in action tomorrow night as they have a road meeting scheduled against the Watertown Arrows.
Yankton Bucks baseball will host Sioux Falls Roosevelt in a double header tomorrow afternoon. First pitch is set for 5:00 PM, pregame coverage on KYNT and KYNTV will begin at 4:30. Bryce Ladwig and Brayden Butler will be on the call.
Yankton Bucks tennis will host a triangular against Lennox and Vermillion tomorrow morning at 11:00 AM. The Bucks are currently 10 and 4 in duels this season.
Yankton Gazelles golf will be in the state capital tomorrow morning, as they’ll compete at Pierre Hillsview golf course. Tee time is set for 10:00 AM.
The South Dakota Coyotes football team hosted their spring game on Saturday, as coaches and fans got to see roughly 80 plays worth of action from the team as they continue to prepare for the upcoming season.
Aidan Bouman took the snaps at quarterback for the Coyotes, throwing two touchdown passes on the day, with coach Bob Nielsen complimenting the confidence and composure of the sophomore.
The Coyotes open their 2023 football season on the road, as they travel to face the Missouri Tigers on September 2nd. USD’s home opener is set for September 9th against St. Thomas.
