Yankton Post 12 is now 17 and 6 during the legion baseball season, as they split their road double header last night against Harrisburg Maroon.

            Yankton took game one 4 to 2 as Isaiah Schelhaas got the win on the mound, striking out 6 batters over 6 innings of work. In game two, Post 12 fell 5 to 2 to Harrisburg, Lucas Kampshoff went 2 for 3 with a run scored in the loss.

            Yankton has a quick turnaround as they host Dell Rapids at 6:00 PM this evening. Pregame coverage on KYNT and KYNTV begins at 5:30, Bryce Ladwig and Brayden Butler will be on the call.

            Yankton Fury Fire return to the diamond this evening as they host SD Thunder Softball at Riverside Park.

            Fury Fire come into the game with a 2, 6, and 1 overall record, while SD Thunder are 8 and 5 on the season. First pitch is set for 6:30 PM.

            University of South Dakota women’s pole vaulter Gen Hirata (Jen Her-ah-ta) was named the Summit League Female Peak Performer of the Month yesterday, following her bronze medal performance at the NCAA Outdoor Championships.

            Hirata earned All-American honors following the National Championships, as she cleared a height of 14 feet, 5 and 1/4th inches en route to the bronze medal. Hirata adds the Peak Performer of the Month accolade to her Summit League Field Athlete of the Year honor that she earned last week.

            Yankton natives Steve and Cindy Weiland won the 65-over title at the South Dakota Golf Association Husband-Wife Championship held in Sioux Falls over the weekend.

            Steve and Cindy shot a total of 157 over the two-day event, eight strokes better than the runners-up Rich and Susan Mulz of Rapid City.

            Several other Yankton couples also competed in the event, Joe and Patti Vig were 10th overall, 5th in the second flight of the 65+ division. In the Senior Division, Carla and Dave Rothluebber took 5th overall, 2nd in the second flight, while Dave and Alicia Cornemann were 2nd in the third flight, and Merrick and Jamie Monaghan were 4th in the fourth flight.

            The Fox Run Golf Course hosted their 3-day Dakotas Tour Pro-Am event late last week, as Andre Metzger of Sioux Falls took the top spot at 20-under par.

            Metzger took 500 tour points and a purse of $9,500 with the victory. Rounding out the top-3 were Fred Wedel of Spring, Texas in 2nd, and Carson Schaake from Omaha, Nebraska in 3rd.

            The Dakotas Tour will return to Yankton at the end of August, as Hillcrest Golf Course is scheduled as the 2023 season finale.
