LOCAL SPORTS 9-26-23

A new set of high school football media polls were released yesterday for class 11-AA, and the Yankton Bucks remain second in the rankings.

            The undefeated Pierre Governors are still #1 as they have been all season, following Yankton in third is Tea Area. Watertown and Spearfish round out the top-5 with Aberdeen Central receiving votes.

            Yankton plays at home on Friday night, as they have their homecoming game against Brookings.

            Yankton Bucks golf finished 6th in yesterday’s ESD conference tournament, as Parker Riley and Easton Vellek earned All-ESD honors .

            Riley, tied for 9th, and Vellek, tied for 11th, were named All-ESD by grabbing top-15 individual finishes in the event. Watertown would win the team title, as they shot a 4-under 284 as a team. Yankton finished the tournament shooting a 318 on the day.

            Next up for the Bucks is the South Dakota Class AA state championships on October 2nd and 3rd at the Brandon Golf Course.

            Yankton Gazelles tennis currently sit in 4th place following the opening day of the ESD conference tournament in Pierre.

            Three different Gazelles advanced to the semi-finals of their singles brackets, as Nora Krajewski (Kra-ski) advanced in flight one, Sabrina Krajewski in flight two, and Kara Koerner in flight three. Koerner and her partner Meagan Scott also advanced to the quarterfinals in flight three of the duos competition.

The ESD conference tournament will conclude today.

Yankton Bucks and Gazelles soccer will play their final regular season matches this evening, as they are on the road against Sioux Falls Roosevelt. The Gazelles play first at 4:00 PM with the Bucks match beginning at 6:00.

Yankton Gazelles volleyball are on the road this evening as they face off with Sioux Falls Jefferson. First serve is scheduled for 7:00 PM.

Mount Marty men’s and women’s golf are currently competing in the Hastings Invitational in Hastings, Nebraska. The second and final day of the competition is scheduled to begin at 10:00 AM this morning.

Mount Marty men’s and women’s soccer will be at home tomorrow night, as they host Northwestern College for a double header. Game one is scheduled to begin at 5:00 PM.

Mount Marty volleyball will be on the road tomorrow night, as they take on Morningside in Sioux City, Iowa. First serve is set for 7:30 PM.

The Yankton Quarterback Club will host their weekly meeting tomorrow at the River Rock Event Center in Yankton. This week’s featured guest speaker will be Augustana head football coach Jerry Olszewski. The meeting begins at noon on Wednesday.
