Yankton School District Placed on a Soft Lockdown After Threat at the Yankton High School

The Yankton School District was placed on a soft lockdown Wednesday after a threat was received by the Yankton High School.

YSD Superintendent, Dr. Wayne Kindle, says that the high school received a phone call Wednesday morning from what sounded to be an automated voice threating the high school.

Kindle says that the entire district went into a soft lockdown, which entails that all entries in every building were locked.

Kindle says the soft lockdown at the elementary and middle schools were lifted after lunch and the high school lockdown remained in place until the end of the school day.

Yankton Police Chief, Jason Foote, says that other schools across the nation have received similar threats, but the YPD and the Yankton School District chose to err on the side of caution.

Foote says that the YPD will continue to track leads in the investigation and that anyone with information regarding the incident should contact Yankton Crime Stoppers at (605)-665-4440.
