The Yankton School District is looking to renew their four year Opt Out plan.
YSD Superintendent, Dr. Wayne Kindle, says that the Opt Out renewal plan is a system where the school district gets a certain amount of money per year through taxes and can use the money towards things that the school district may need, such as, in-town bussing, pre-school for all children, school counselors, and school nurses.
Kindle says that in the first two years of the current Opt Out in 2021 and 2022, they used the full $1.85 million per year because of the COVID-19 Pandemic.
Kindle says that in the last two years of the current Opt Out, 2023 and 2024, they will not use the full $1.85 million, which will go untouched by the school district.
Kindle says that despite not using the full $1.85 million in 2023 and 2024, the school district is looking to renew the Opt Out amount because there are too many unknown factors with the school’s general fund.
Kindle says that the school board will consider moving forward with a resolution to renew the current Opt Out at the January school board meeting.
