The Yankton Fire Department responded to two separate fires in the area Monday evening.
The first occurred around 6:00 PM on Christmas Day, as smoke was reported in a home east of Yankton. The source of the smoke was found to be smoldering insulation and trusses above the home’s utility room.
YFD determined the cause of the fire to be electrical, and after deeming the area safe, the family were able to stay in their home. No injuries were reported.
The second incident occurred just before midnight on the 25th, as a dumpster fire was reported behind a business on the 900 block of Broadway in Yankton. First responders were quickly able to extinguish the fire. The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
Across the two incidents, YFD were assisted by the Yankton Police Department, Yankton County Sheriff’s Office, Yankton EMS, Yankton County Emergency Management, and Northwestern Energy.
