The Yankton Fire Department responded to a fire at an apartment complex on the 1000 block of Walnut Street Monday night.
According to Yankton Fire Chief, Tim Linke, upon arrival at the scene, firefighters were able to see heavy smoke from an apartment building.
Linke says that firefighters discovered that the fire started in the kitchen of an apartment.
Linke says that there were no occupants in the apartment at the time of the fire and there was smoke and fire damage in the kitchen.
Firefighters were able to get the fire under control in about 30 minutes and the cause of the fire is undetermined at this time.
