Following a season that saw the Yankton Gazelles Basketball program more than double the win total of the previous year and earn a spot in the SoDak 16, Head Coach Matt Decker will be stepping down as coach to accept an administrative position with the Yankton School District.
Decker said that the decision was a difficult one to make, but he couldn’t pass up the opportunity for himself and his family.
Decker, who will be the next Assistant Principal at Yankton Middle School, is embracing the new challenges that come with the role, explaining that he’s excited about the potential for growth for himself, as well as staff and students.
Decker will also be leaving his post as an assistant for the Bucks football team when he takes on his new role. No replacements for Decker in either coaching position have been announced at this time.
