The Yankton Bucks Tennis team is in Rapid City today for the Class AA State Tournament.
Matches are scheduled to begin at 8:00 AM this morning. Flights 1 through 3 will be held at Sioux Park, with Flights 4 through 6 being held at Parkview. Doubles play will begin at 12:30 PM at Sioux Park. The seeding and opening-round matchup for each Buck is listed below.
In Singles Play:
- Zachary Briggs is the 5-seed at Flight 1. He will face Aberdeen Central’s Anderson Prehn in round 1.
- Harrison Krajewski is the 5-seed at Flight 2. He will face Rapid City Central’s Triston Ducheneaux (Do-Shen-O) in round 1.
- Christopher Rockne is the 7-seed at Flight 3. He will face Aberdeen Central’s Dawson Pedersen in round 1.
- Luke Moeller is the 3-seed at Flight 4. He will face Rapid City Central’s Noah McGrath in round 1.
- Miles Krajewski is the 3-seed at Flight 5. He will face Sioux Falls Roosevelt’s Aaden Tieszen (Aiden Teez-en) in round 1.
- Ethan Marsh is the 4-seed at Flight 6. He will face Sioux Falls Roosevelt’s Owen Hoier (Hoy-er) in round 1.
In Doubles Play:
- Zachary Briggs and Harrison Krajewski are the 5-seed at Flight 1. They will face Brookings’ Braylon Peters and Carson Kreie in round 1.
- Christopher Rockne and Luke Moeller are the 7-seed at Flight 2. They will face Aberdeen Central’s Gannon Pedersen and Mika Dannen in round 1.
- Miles Krajewski and Ethan Marsh are the 3-seed in Flight 3. They will face Sioux Falls Roosevelt’s Aaden Tieszen (Aiden Teez-en) and Owen Hoier (Hoy-er) in round 1.
Yankton Bucks Baseball will be in action tomorrow for the Class A Super Regional Series against Pierre.
The Bucks were swept by Pierre in the regular season, losing 11 to 9 and 4 to 2 last weekend.
First pitch of game one of the series is scheduled for 7:00 PM tomorrow night. Pregame coverage on KYNT and KYNTV begins at 6:30, Tehl Tanner will be on the call. Game two and, if necessary, game three will be held on Saturday, beginning at 11:00 AM.
Yankton Gazelles Softball will end their regular season tonight, as they host the Sioux Falls Jefferson Cavaliers.
Yankton is currently 11th in Class AA with a 6 and 11 overall record. Sioux Falls Jefferson is currently 4th at 14 and 5, ahead of next week’s SoDak 16.
First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 PM at Sertoma Park in Yankton.
Yankton Track and Field are on the road today, as they compete in the Harrisburg “Last Chance” Meet.
This will be the last meet for the Bucks and Gazelles before next week’s state tournament in Sioux Falls.
Events are scheduled to begin at 2:00 PM at Harrisburg High School.
Yankton Gazelles Golf is on the road today, as they compete in an invitational in Brookings.
After today, Yankton will host a home quadrangular next Monday ahead of the ESD Conference Meet on Tuesday.
Tee time for today is 10:00 AM at the Brookings Country Club.
Several area athletes, including three Yankton Bucks, have been recognized as Academic All-State by the South Dakota High School Baseball Association.
Lucas Kampshoff, Sean Turner, and Tyson Prouty represent the Bucks this season. Other area athletes include Bon Homme’s Chapin Cooper, Easton Mudder, Jace Toupal, Jackson Caba, Landon Bares, Tristan Simek, and Vermillion’s Conner Roerig.
To be selected as Academic All-State, a senior athlete must maintain a cumulative 3.5 GPA.
Multiple area athletes have been selected for the 2024 Northeast Nebraska All-Star Basketball Games.
On the girls’ side, Caitlin Guenther and Ellie Tramp will represent Crofton on the “light” team alongside Bloomfield’s Madison Abbenhaus. Crofton’s Maggie Moon will be one of the coaches as well. Wynot’s Kinslee Heimes will be part of the “dark” team.
On the boys’ side, Layne Warrior of Bloomfield earned a spot on the “light” team, while Cedar Catholic’s Alex Kuehn and Wynot’s Chase Schroeder are on the “dark” team, with Wynot’s Lee Heimes as one of the coaches.
The games will be held on May 31 at the Cox Activities Center on the Northeast Community College campus in Norfolk, Nebraska.
