The future of ambulance services in Yankton County was a major topic of discussion at the most recent county commission meeting.
At the meeting on June 18th, Yankton County Commission Chair John Marquardt said that the commission is not looking to act on anything right now, but ambulance services are a cost inefficiency to Yankton County.
Yankton County EMS Administrator Eric Van Dusen says that part of the issue is that ambulance services are not considered essential in South Dakota.
Van Dusen says that Yankton County EMS has been working on zoning in their billing practices after firing a third-party billing company last August.
Van Dusen says that they need more time to determine the future of ambulance services in Yankton County.
The commission agreed to continue to discuss the matter at their next meeting.
