Yankton Post 12 Legion Baseball ended their trip west with a 16 to 7 victory over Rapid City Post 320 on Saturday.
Lucas Kampshoff led Post 12 at the plate, going 3 for 5 with 2 runs and an RBI. Gavin Johnson finished 2 for 4 with 3 RBI as well for Yankton. Mark Kathol got the win on the mound, striking out 3 batters over 5 1/3rd innings of work.
Yankton finished their trip out west 3 and 2, sweeping Box Elder on Thursday, and dropping both games to Rapid City Post 22 on Friday. Post 12 has an extended break during the 4th of July holiday. Their next game is scheduled for July 8th against Brandon Valley.
Current University of South Dakota throws assistant coach Maggie Ewen finished 6th in the women’s shot put finals at the US Olympic Trials on Saturday.
Ewen’s longest throw came on her 2nd attempt, measuring 18.62 meters or 61 feet, 1.25 inches.
Ewen missed out on a top-3 qualifying spot for Team USA. The top-3 from Saturday’s final were Chase Jackson, Raven Saunders, and Jaida (Jay-da) Ross.
University of South Dakota Alumnus Emily Grove finished 9th in the women’s pole vault finals at the US Olympic trials on Sunday.
Grove cleared 4.43 meters on her first attempt, tying her for 9th. Grove finished 0.3 meters outside of a top-3 qualifying spot.
The top 3 for the event, Bridget Williams, Katie Moon, and Brynn King, all cleared 4.73 meters.
University of South Dakota athlete and Salem native Jacy Pulse finished 20th in the semifinals of the women’s 400-meter hurdles at the US Olympic Trials on Saturday.
Pulse improved on her quarterfinal time to finish in 56.59 seconds. Her fifth time this season finishing in under 57 seconds.
The finals for the event took place yesterday, finishing in the top 3 were Sydney McLaughlin-Levron, Anna Cockrell, and Jasmine Jones.
