The man found guilty of manslaughter in the death of Israel Matos-Colon in March of 2023 was sentenced on Monday.
David Phillips Jr of Louisiana was sentenced to a minimum of four years with a maximum of twenty years for the crime, with a release after ten years for good behavior.
Phillips was credited for the 509 days he has already been incarcerated since his initial arrest last year.
Parole is available for Phillips after two years. With the days already credited to his sentence, he will be eligible for parole starting early next year.
