Yankton Man in Custody after 4-Week Search

A man who escaped authorities after a June chase into Cedar County has been apprehended in Lesterville following an armed standoff on Monday.

The Yankton County Sheriff’s Office says Jason Lee Sitzman, who is wanted on charges from both South Dakota and Iowa, was arrested after law enforcement located him at a Lesterville residence.

The Sheriff’s report says Sitzman refused to exit the home and authorities were force to disperse chemical agents inside. Sitzman and a female then came out of the house and were both arrested without further incident.

In June, Sitzman, who was being sought for a parole violation, led authorities on a pursuit from South Dakota into Cedar County where he escaped. Sitzman is now being held in the Yankton County Jail.
