The Class A Legion Baseball Super Regionals begin tonight, and #6 Yankton Post 12 will host #10 Sioux Falls Post 15 West at Riverside Field.

Tonight is game one of a best-of-three series between the two teams, with the winner advancing to next week’s Class A State Tournament in Brookings. The two squads split their regular season meetings, each picking up a victory.

First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 PM this evening with pregame coverage on KYNT and KYNTV beginning at 5:30. Bryce Ladwig and Brayden Butler will be on the call. The full Class A Super Regional bracket is available below.

The University of South Dakota announced yesterday the largest private family gift in the history of USD Athletics from the Scott and Lisa Jones Family.

Both Scott and Lisa are alumni of USD, with Scott holding several program records as a quarterback for the football team in the 80s. Scott is also a member of the Coyote Athletic Hall of Fame.

The gift from the Jones family will benefit not only the USD football program but also general athletic scholarships and event support for the entirety of the USD athletic department. A portion of the gift will endow the Offensive Coordinator position, now known as the Scott & Lisa Jones Family Offensive Coordinator position.

The donation will also provide seven figures into the next phase of the DakotaDome renovations. The Associated Press reports the donation is in the range of five million dollars.

The District 6B Amateur Baseball Tournament begins today in Lesterville, with Tabor earning the #1 seed.

Tabor finished 2nd in the South Central League this season with an 11 and 3 league record. They are the lone team with a first-round bye.

First-round matchups are #4 Freeman vs #5 Wynot tonight at 7:30 PM, tomorrow, #3 Lesterville vs #6 Menno at 6:00 PM, and #2 Crofton vs #7 Irene at 8:00 PM.

University of South Dakota track and field athlete Luke Olson has been selected as an NCAA Postgraduate Scholar.

With the award, Olson will receive a one-time $10,000 scholarship to be used for postgraduate study. To earn the award, a nominee must hold a minimum 3.2 grade-point average, be nominated by the faculty athletics representative, and intend to pursue postgraduate studies.

Olson is the 36th USD student-athlete to be selected as a postgraduate scholar, and enrolled in USD’s doctorate of physical therapy program this past fall.

Signup for Yankton High School Boys Golf is underway for boys entering grades 7th through 12th.

Students can register in person tomorrow at 10 a.m. in room 235 at Yankton High School.

Yankton’s Boys Golf season officially begins on August 12th, with their first varsity meet set for August 19th.
