Yankton Post 12 took a 1-0 series lead over Sioux Falls Post 15 West in the Class A Baseball Super Regionals last night with a 6 to 3 victory.

Tate Beste and Gavin Johnson each recorded 2 RBI in the win, with Samuel Gokie pitching the complete game on the mound, striking out five batters.

Game two of the series is scheduled for 4:00 PM this afternoon at Riverside Field. Pregame coverage on KYNT and KYNTV begins at 3:30 with Bryce Ladwig and Brayden Butler on the call.

If Yankton wins, they advance to the state tournament in Brookings next week. If they lose, the series goes to a deciding game three immediately following game two.

  • #1 Harrisburg Gold defeated #15 Rapid City Post 320 10 to 0.
  • #2 Rapid City Post 22 topped #14 Huron 8 to 0.
  • #3 Renner Royals shutout #13 Spearfish 10 to 0.
  • #4 Sioux Falls East beat #12 Harrisburg Maroon 7 to 4.
  • #5 Watertown edged out #11 Pierre 3 to 2.
  • #6 Yankton defeated #10 Sioux Falls West 6 to 3.
  • #7 Aberdeen fell to #9 Brandon Valley 5 to 2.

The University of South Dakota claimed both the Men’s and Women’s Daktronics Summit League Scholar Athletes of the Year for 2023-24.

Track and field athlete Jacy Pulse earned the honor on the women’s side, with swimming and diving athlete Caleb Swanson taking the men’s honor.

The Coyote sweep this year is the first time in the 30+ year history of the award that both the men’s and women’s winners were from the same university.

Tabor advanced to the Region 4B Legion Baseball Championship game yesterday, defeating Wagner 7 to 5.

Landon Schmidt went 3-for-4 with four RBI for Tabor, with Jackson Caba adding a home run in the victory.

Tabor will host Parkston today at 1:00 PM. Since Tabor has yet to lose in the double-elimination tournament, Parkston will have to win back-to-back games to be crowned 4B champions, while Tabor only needs one win for the title.

The Freeman Black Sox defeated the Wynot Expos last night 8 to 3 in the opening game of the District 6B Amateur Baseball Tournament.

Bailey Sage led the way for Freeman, tallying three RBI on two hits. Jackson Fiegen was credited with the win on the mound, striking out eight batters over six innings.

Freeman advances to take on top-seeded Tabor in the 2nd round. That game is scheduled for next Tuesday at 6:00 PM.

Signup for Yankton High School Boys Golf is underway for boys entering grades 7th through 12th.

Students can register in person today at 10 a.m. in room 235 at Yankton High School.

Yankton’s Boys Golf season officially begins on August 12th, with their first varsity meet set for August 19th.
