On Tuesday night, the Yankton County Commission had the first reading of an ordinance which would address commercial wind farms in the county.
Thirty-five different people talked as part of the public comments section on this issue.
Kay Lockheart talks about the need for a mix of energy sources…
Nancy Wenande talks about the desire for economic growth…
Lauren Nelson talks about the wind turbines which do not turn…
The primary issue at hand is how much of a setback there should be, with proposals ranging from 2 miles to 1,000 feet.
Needing more time to consider the various proposals, the first reading of this ordinance was held over until the next meeting, on August 20th, so the Commission is able to make some changes to the proposal before sending it forward for the second reading and vote.
