Yankton Gazelles Volleyball was defeated by the Watertown Arrows last night, 3 sets to 0.
Sophomore Setter Alaina Nelson recorded six aces for the Gazelles in the win, earning praise from head coach Taylor Stacey.
The Gazelles return to action tonight, on the road against Sioux Falls Roosevelt. First serve is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
Yankton Bucks football fell to 4th in the latest Class 11-AA Media Poll, following their loss to Watertown last week.
Pierre remains atop the class at #1, with Watertown moving into 2nd and Spearfish in 3rd.
Locally, Avon remains the unanimous #1 team in Class 9-B, defeating their opponents by an average score of 59.3 to 17.7. Full polls for all classes are available at the end.
Yankton Bucks and Gazelles Soccer is on the road today for a doubleheader against the Brandon Valley Lynx.
The Gazelles are receiving votes in the latest Class AA polls at 4, 3, and 1 on the year. The Bucks enter today’s match at 1,6, and 1.
The Gazelles are scheduled to play first at 5:00 PM with the Bucks to follow. Matches will be held at Brandon Valley High School.
Mount Marty Women’s Golf took first place in yesterday’s Matthew Goette Fall Classic, shooting a 351 as a team.
Individually for the Lancers, Kelsey Heath took 2nd at 84, followed by top-10 finishers Kamri Kittelson and Trinity Palmquist who both shot 88.
The Lancers’ next meet will be the Siouxland Invitational on September 23rd and 24th in Sioux Center and Orange City, Iowa.
Mount Marty Men’s Golf is 12th in the Siouxland Invite, finishing day one at 520 over two rounds.
Individually, Wout Kerkhofs leads the Lancers at a 6-over 148. Also for MMU, Ted Bengston shot 154, Jimmie Cunningham shot 160, Hunter Bailey shot 161, and Bennett Cassens finished at 162.
The final round of the invite will be held today at Landsmeer Golf Course in Orange City, Iowa. Tee time is scheduled for 10:00 AM.
The Yankton Quarterback Club will host their weekly meeting tomorrow at the River Rock Event Center in Yankton.
This week’s featured guest speaker is South Dakota State University Head Football Coach Jimmy Rogers. Rogers is in his second year as head coach and led the Jackrabbits to a national title last year.
A meal will be served beginning at 11:15 AM with the program beginning at noon. There is a cost for the meal, and the public is invited to attend.
