The Yankton School District and the Yankton Police Department have released a statement regarding a false report that was circulating on social media that there was an alleged active shooter at the Yankton Middle School.
YSD Superintendent, Dr. Wayne Kindle, says that the report was completely false and at no point was there an active shooter situation and the report came at a time when the middle school and local law enforcement were practicing a scheduled active threat drill.
Kindle says that he urges parents, students, and community members to rely on official communication channels from the Yankton School District and local authorities for accurate information.
Kindle says that they take reports of that nature very seriously and their primary concern is the safety and security of the students and staff.
