Mount Marty Volleyball picked up a 3-1 win over in-state rivals Dakota Wesleyan last night, improving to 11-6 on the year.
Caitlin Guenther was the catalyst for the Lancers, ending the match with 13 kills and 9 blocks. Guenther’s final kill was the match-ender for the Lancers.
Also for the Lancers, Julia Weber had a team-high 17 kills while Tevan Erickson recorded 50 assists.
The Lancers are back in action on Friday for a road matchup with Morningside in Sioux City, Iowa.
Yankton Gazelles Volleyball was defeated 3 sets to 1 last night by the #1 team in Class AA, the Sioux Falls Jefferson Cavaliers.
Yankton won set two 25-21, handing Jefferson their 7th set loss of the year, and the first set victory of the Gazelles over the Cavaliers since 2021.
Individually for the Gazelles, Alaina Nelson recorded 12 assists and 2 aces, and Gracie Gutzmann finished with a team-high 8 kills.
Yankton is off until October 10th, when they host Brandon Valley inside the Summit Activities Center.
Yankton Gazelles Tennis finished 2nd as a team in the ESD Conference Meet, claiming a pair of singles titles and a doubles title.
Nora Krajewski played a part in two of Yankton’s wins, earning 1st place in Flight 1 singles and Flight 1 doubles alongside her sister Sabrina. Paige Mitzel claimed the top spot for Yankton in Flight 3 singles.
Next up for the Gazelles is the Class AA State Championships on October 10th and 11th in Rapid City.
Mount Marty Golf finished 2nd in the women’s division and 3rd in the men’s division in the MMU Tatanka Invite, which concluded yesterday.
For the Lancer women, Kelsey Heath finished 2nd individually at 161, a single stroke behind Dakota Wesletyan’s Ashton Austreim. MMU placed 5 athletes in the top 11 with Kamri Kittelson 4th, Abigail Greenhoff 6th, Tatum Jensen 9th, and Trinity Palmquist 11th.
For the Lancer Men, Wout Kerkhofs and Ted Bengston each shot a 157 for the event, tying for 5th. Bennett Cassens shot 166, Hunter Bailey shot 167 and Jimmie Cunningham shot 168.
Next up for MMU Golf is the Morningside Invitational on October 7th and 8th at Dakota Dunes.
Yankton Bucks and Gazelles Cross Country returns to action tomorrow, competing in a meet in South Sioux City, Nebraska.
The Varsity Girls run at 1:00 PM with the Varsity Boys scheduled for 1:30. Races are held at the Jeffrey C Dibble Soccer Complex.
Mount Marty and Briar Cliff have announced the “Catholic Cup” as the new traveling trophy for football between the two universities.
Briar Cliff and Mount Marty are the lone Catholic universities in the GPAC. The “Catholic Cup” Game will be sponsored by Pizza Ranch, with the first iteration taking place this Saturday in Sioux City, Iowa. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:30 PM.
