Yankton Bucks Football was picked 1st in the final Class 11-AA Media polls this week, earning 16 of 18 first-place votes.

Yankton ended the regular season with an 80-14 win over Mitchell last week. Watertown is 2nd in the poll, followed by Brookings and Pierre, with Spearfish rounding out the top 5. Tea Area was receiving votes.

With the playoffs beginning last week for the remaining classes, only Class 11-AAA, 11-AA, and 11-A were listed this week. Full polls are available at the end.

The University of South Dakota has announced the creation of a new award for track and field and cross country athletes named the Rob ‘Kip’ Kinnunen Academic Achievement and Athletic Excellence Award.

The award aims to recognize outstanding student-athletes who exemplify the values of discipline, perseverance, and sportsmanship championed by Coach Kinnunen. 

The award will honor student-athletes who have demonstrated exceptional academic achievement while excelling in athletic performance.

Yankton Gazelles Volleyball went 2 and 3 over the weekend in the East/West Volleyball Tournament in Spearfish and Sturgis.

Yankton fell to Rapid City Central, Rapid City Stevens, and Spearfish on Friday before defeating Douglas and Sturgis on Saturday.

The Gazelles are now 6-18 on the season and are 17th in Class AA. Yankton has two matches remaining, the first being held tonight on the road against the Tea Area Titans. First serve from Tea is scheduled for 7:00 PM.

University of South Dakota Head Football Coach Bob Nielsen will be the featured guest speaker at today’s Yankton Quarterback Club Meeting.

Nielsen’s Coyotes are currently 6-2 on the season following their 20-17 loss to SDSU on Saturday.

A paid meal will be served beginning at 11:15 PM, with the meeting beginning at noon at the River Rock Event Center in Yankton.

Mount Marty Men’s and Women’s Soccer wrap up their regular season tomorrow with a road doubleheader against Doane in Crete, Nebraska. The women are scheduled to play first at 5:00 PM with the men to follow.

Mount Marty Volleyball are on the road in Omaha, Nebraska tomorrow night for a GPAC matchup with the College of Saint Mary.

The Lancers are 12-12 on the year following last week’s 3 set to 1 loss to the Concordia Bulldogs.

First serve is scheduled for 7:30 PM tomorrow night.
