Local Sports 11-22-24

The NAIA Cross Country Championships will be held today in Columbia, Missouri, and Mount Marty will have multiple athletes in the race for the first time since 2012.

Senior Logan Ferrari and Freshman Joseph Cross will represent the Lancers in the National Meet. Ferrari finished 6th at the GPAC Championships on November 9th followed closely by Cross in 10th.

The race will be held at 10:30 AM this morning at The Gans Creek Cross Country Course. The top 50 finishers will earn All-American honors.

Mount Marty Men’s and Women’s Basketball will be on the road tomorrow afternoon for a GPAC doubleheader against Waldorf.

The Lancer men are 4-2 on the year following Wednesday’s 81-71 win over Midland. The Lancer women look to get back into the win column tomorrow after falling to Midland earlier this week.

The women will play first at 2:00 PM with the men to follow. Pregame coverage on KYNT begins at 1:30. Tehl Tanner will be on the call.

Former Yankton Gazelle Camille McDermott has been named the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Volleyball Setter of the Year as a freshman for Spring Hill College.

During her first collegiate season, McDermott tallied 608 assists, 138 digs, and 27 ace serves, helping lead the Badgers to a 22-7 record, 19-0 in league play.

McDermott and Spring Hill recently defeated Clark Atlanta in the SIAC Tournament Quarterfinals. The Badgers will compete in the Semifinals today.

The Gayville-Volin Raiders fell to Hitchcock-Tulare last night in five sets in the opening round of the Class B State Volleyball Tournament.

Maia Achen led the Raiders with 22 kills in the loss, followed by Paisley Dimmer and Kayden Bye with 11 each. Britton Scheetz recorded 44 assists.

Gayville-Volin falls into the consolation bracket with the loss, taking on Colman-Egan today at 12:45 PM.

  • #3 Sioux Falls Washington edged out #6 Sioux Falls Roosevelt 3-2.
  • #4 O’Gorman swept #5 Watertown 3-0.

  • #1 Miller was upset by #8 Sioux Falls Christian 3-0.
  • #2 Hamlin beat #7 Sioux Valley 3-1.
  • #3 Dell Rapids swept #6 Winner 3-0.
  • #4 Dakota Valley defeated #5 Mount Vernon/Planktinton 3-1.

Class B:

  • #1 Chester swept #8 Castlewood 3-0.
  • #2 Warner edged out #7 Colman-Egan 3-2,
  • #3 Hitchcock-Tulare outlasted #6 Gayville-Vollin 3-2.
  • #4 Kadoka Area was swept by #5 Burke 3-0.

South Dakota Women’s Basketball picked up their second win of the season last night, defeating North Carolina Central 61-54.

Grace Larkins scored 24 points to lead the Coyotes. Larkins scoring output moved her into the top 10 in Coyote history for points in a career.

USD is on the road for their next game, taking on Dayton next Tuesday in a neutral site game in Nashville, Tennessee.

South Dakota Men’s Basketball is on the road tonight to take on Southern Indiana in Evansville.

USD is 5-1 on the year following their 80-76 win over Western Michigan on Wednesday.

Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 PM this evening.

South Dakota State Women’s Basketball is in Hawaii for their next two games for the North Shore Showcase.

SDSU will face Georgia Tech tomorrow in their first game. The Jackrabbits are 3-1 on the season coming off a 75-71 loss to #16 Duke.

Tip-off from Hawaii is scheduled for 3:00 PM local time/7:00 PM Central on Saturday.
